Today’s “Furious Five” interview is with Brad Jersak, author and teacher based in Abbotsford, BC, where he serves as ordained reader and monastery preacher at All Saints of North America Monastery. He also occasionally teaches at Fresh Wind Christian Fellowship. Through his books and seminars, Brad shares the good news that God is Love, perfectly revealed in Jesus Christ. He teaches others how to encounter God through the practice of ”listening prayer,” through which God’s love heals wounded hearts and empowers us to heal this broken world.
1. If you had the power to do one thing to change the world, what would it be?
I would like to end human cruelty. Given the necessity of human freedom, sadly, the quick way there would likely require a global flood and only work temporarily. So I rest in the slow, painful, messy hope that love will accomplish this.
2. What is your favourite film?
Favourite: Bladerunner. Most significant: Apocalypse Now (my conversion to pacifism).
3. What do you perceive to be Christianity’s greatest challenge in the 21st Century?
Recovering a Christlike message, character and life-style.
4. What book/s are you reading at the moment?
5. Who is your hero?
Besides Jesus? Departed: Simone Weil. Living: for today, Ai Weiwei (see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVZGyTdk_BY)
Brad is the author of several books including A More Christlike God: A More Beautiful Gospel, Her Gates Will Never Be Shut: Hope, Hell, and the New Jerusalem, and the brilliant children’s book Jesus Showed Us. He is, among other things, editor in chief for the Christianity Without Religion Magazine, blogger at Clarion, licenced minister, and itinerant teacher.
