Traumatic Christmas

“In many ways we have forgotten the trauma of the incarnation, thus resulting in…absurd amounts of sentimentality and triviality. Within my own Baptist tribe it has become common place to create a nativity scene in a public place that people are then invited to come and be a part of by dressing up as a shepherd or wise man to then have a picture taken. So we further the sterilization of Advent and perpetuate ridiculous notions of this divine-human event. What this does is draw people away from the gospel, leading them to a false sense of who Jesus is.” The Ghost of Perfection, p 28-29
